J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Subaru vehicles are better in initial quality than Volkswagen vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Subaru above average in initial quality. With 38 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volkswagen is rated below average.

Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Subaru vehicles are more reliable than Volkswagen With 73 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Subaru higher than Volkswagen.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Subaru vehicles are more reliable than Volkswagen vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Subaru first in overall reliability. Volkswagen is ranked 18th.

The Trailseeker’s electric motors produces 93 more horsepower (375 vs. 282) than the ID.4’s standard electric motor. The Trailseeker’s electric motors produces 40 more horsepower (375 vs. 335) than the ID.4’s optional electric motors.

The Subaru Trailseeker has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather. Only rear drums come on the ID.4. Drums can heat up and make stops longer, especially with antilock brakes that work much harder than conventional brakes.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Trailseeker’s wheelbase is 3.4 inches longer than on the ID.4 (112.2 inches vs. 108.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Trailseeker is .6 inches wider in the front and 1.8 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the ID.4.
